Are you spending way too much time trying to straighten your hair everyday? Are you looking for ways to get smooth and shiny hair without straightening it permanently? Are you wondering how to straighten your hair quickly?
Today I’m going to show you how to straighten curly hair without a flat iron and cut your styling time in half!
I know the struggle all too well. I have tried so many products and styling tools over the years that have never given me the results I wanted.. until now. I’m really excited to share with you what has been life changing for me! This routine has kept my super thick, wavy/curly hair tamed without using a flat iron!
In order to get my hair straight I always had to use a flat iron. I would blow dry my hair after protecting it with a product for heat, use a flat iron and then a smoothing serum. My hair would look pretty straight, at least as straight a I could get it to look.
However, it never really looked healthy after I flat ironed it. The ends always looked dry and it never looked completely smooth and definitely not shiny. So that always bothered me. Can you relate?
Wasted Time…
The other problem was the time it took me to do this routine. To get my hair completely dry it takes about a half hour to blow dry my hair. It needs to be completely dry in order to flat iron it. Then add in another 15 mins at least to separate all the hair into sections and slowly straighten it. That doesn’t include the time it takes me to shower. The whole routine just takes waaaaay to long!
That was fine when I was younger without kids, because I had the time to do that routine. With three kids, there is no time! Time is precious and I don’t feel like being holed up in my bathroom for at least an hour at night sweating from the amount of heat I need to apply to my hair in order to get it looking like I want it too!
All that has changed….
Ladies! I found a really amazing tool that has been life changing for me.
Before we get into the details on the styler let’s quickly discuss why our hair frizzes. If we know the reason we are more likely to find the best solution instead of trying to put a bandaid over the problem and never getting to the root of it.

How To Straighten Curly Hair Quickly: What Causes Frizzy Hair?
Simply put:A lack of moisture in your hair whether it’s genetic, dry or damaged.
As soon as your hair gets in an environment where there is humidity it wants to suck up all that moisture which in turn creates that lovely frizz we are all so fond of.
So it’s ironic that we work so hard to straighten our hair with the best flat irons out there which can actually risk damaging our hair over time and drying it out… so we are trying to solve the problem, but are we really making it worse?
From my research, I’m finding that we need to add more moisture into our hair so that our hair doesn’t want to suck up that humidity. then we can hopefully tame our frizzy hair.
Now that sounds nice, but moisture alone won’t cut it if you want to straighten your curly hair.
If you want to tame the frizz then yes… adding moisture to your hair is going to help it , but we also need to use the right tool to straighten our hair without damaging or drying it out..
How to Straighten Hair Quickly WITHOUT a Flat Iron
Alright, now to the best part. My new favorite tool that has been life changing for me!!
This is A Busy Mom’s Lifesaver!! (Or EVERY girl’s for that matter!)
Check out the reviews. Almost 6,000 20,000 5 1/2 star reviews on Amazon. That just shows you how wonderful this product is.
Apparently, it was Amazon’s top selling beauty Product in 2019!
Now when you see the description it says volumizer. I’m not big on volume and I also think it’s a perception thing, because what I consider volume may not be to others. I don’t like flat hair that sticks to my head though.
However, this doesn’t make my hair big and fluffy. Just smooth and shiny.
UPDATE: If it’s not in stock on Amazon then try the Revlon Styler at Walmart.
How To Use The Revlon One Step Hair Dryer and Styler
It’s a round brush that smooths and dries your hair at the same time. It’s an all in one styler. That means that you no longer need to take your brush and hold the hair dryer while fumbling and trying to recreate what your hair stylist does!!! My stylist is the only one who has ever naturally straightened my hair by using just a brush and hair dryer. Now I have this Revlon Styler to mimic what she does at home!!!
There’s nothing difficult about using this tool. Wash your hair, towel dry and then start using the brush styler starting at the roots and moving slowly to the ends. Keep repeating until your hair is smooth and dry. That’s it!! This has not only saved me time, but my arm!
Here is the before of me after letting my hair air dry. You can see how thick and curly my natural hair is:
Now here is what my hair looks like after drying my hair with the Revlon Styler:
Pretty impressive, isn’t it? This took me no time at all especially because I let it air dry halfway first.
I showered first thing in the morning and let my hair air dry while I made breakfast, lunches and got the kids ready for school. Then I started to dry it.
I’m telling you this because I want you to know how this just simplifies your life! I could never let my hair air dry and then blow dry it later because the curl would not completely come out and it would be super frizzy.
I love that now I can wash my hair, but not have to dry it immediately to get my hair straight.
Not to mention the time it is saving me. I no longer need to spend an hour in the bathroom trying to dry and straighten my hair!
It’s a game-changer.
Here is a video that shows you how it works.
I also want to point out that I bought this other Revlon One Step Styler(below) first because it was less expensive. It’s the same idea only it’s not a round brush, but a flat brush.
This was good, because it did straighten my hair. However, it didn’t dry the roots as well and the ends of my hair were so straight that they always looked dry and unfinished if that makes sense. My ends looked unhealthy.
I decided to spend the extra money and get the round brush and it worked so much better! I knew I should have spent the extra money, to begin with!
For someone like me with thick hair I need the ends slightly rounded to smooth them out. My hair does not look turned under or anything, but that roundness smooths the ends where the flat brush didn’t.
My hair stylist NEVER uses a flat brush to straighten my hair so I should have know it wouldn’t give me the same results.
I just wanted to give you an honest review of both in case you were unsure of what the difference was between the two products.
The round brush Revlon One Step Styler is hands down the better choice.
How to Straighten Curly Hair- More Tips to Help Fight The Frizz
Let’s get into other ways you can keep your hair looking smooth and healthy…
Wash Your Hair Less
Hot water and shampoo can strip your hair of it’s moisture. If you have dry hair you definitely want to wash it less. 2 to 3 times a week is plenty! Trust me, ask your hairdresser! Less is more here. It will save you the time and your hair will thank you.
Towel Dry Your Hair Gently
…with a microfiber towel. It’s way gentler on your hair and it will dry your hair better than a regular towel does. These towels are said to cut your drying time in half!!! The less time you spend blow drying the better because that means less heat damage so it will assist in eliminating the frizz.
Try a Serum or Cream for Frizz Before You Blow Dry Your Hair
This is my new favorite cream that I apply before I use the Revlon One Step Styler.
The combination of this cream and the styler is working wonderfully. My hair is soft and smooth and looks healthy!! This frizz ease styling creme also protects your hair against heat.
You only need a tiny bit so this product goes a long way. Apply a dime size amount to towel dried hair and then blow dry your hair.
Have You Ever Used a Satin or Silk Pillowcase For Your Hair?
I’m on my second one. I originally bought it to cut back on my sleep wrinkles(my skin doesn’t bounce back like it used as I get older!). To my surprise, it also helps keep your hair soft and shiny!!
A silk or satin pillow case creates less friction on your hair so it will help preserve a blowout and bedhead. Less friction means it won’t cause hair breakage and reduces split ends. Your hair just glides over the pillow and you wake up with silky smooth hair(and no face wrinkles!).
I will never go back to cotton! I loooove my silk pillowcase.
Here’s mine:
Also, be sure that you’re not using hair ties to pull back your hair at night when you sleep. They can cause breakage and damage your hair. I use a good quality scrunchie as they are good for your hair.
Add a Hair Mask into Your Hair Care Routine
A hair mask is soooo important for keeping our frizzy hair tame. As we talked about earlier, we need our hair to have as much moisture as possible so it doesn’t absorb the humidity in the air. Add a deep conditioning leave in treatment or hair mask to your routine once a week or twice a month. Below are two of the best sellers on Amazon.
Coconut oil is a typical go-to for hair masks, but it’s known to be best for those with thin to medium textured hair. Coconut Oil can actually dry out thick and coarse hair. Check out Wellness Mama for tips on how to properly use coconut oil if you’re interested in going that route!
Finish with a Hair Serum for Smoothing Hair
Lastly you want to finish your routine off with a good serum that will smooth your hair. There are so many different serums out there it can be overwhelming! Argan oil is said to be the best for thicker hair. This product combines aloe vera and argan oil to perfectly treat dry and damaged hair.
Here is pure organic Argan Oil. If you want to go all natural then this is the way to go. 7000 positive reviews and it can also treat other skin issues. Amazing stuff.
So there you have it! These are the steps I currently take to get my hair looking smooth and straight quickly without using a flat iron.
While I can never guarantee these steps will work for you as well as they have for me, I have a good feeling that you will get results!!
