Due to being on lockdown the past month, I know many of you have been working out from home. I started working out at home over 10 years ago and I’ve actually gotten better results than when I worked out at the gym! Today I want to share with you the best home exercise equipment for beginners to help keep you in shape while you are staying healthy and safe at home.
Now with everything in such high demand, my exact equipment is not all available , but I’m going to show similar items when necessary.
The Best Home Exercise Equipment For Beginners
Free Weights.
Dumbells are an essential part of getting a good home workout. They are ideal for toning your body, but you can also add a light dumbell into your HIIT routine for an extra boost. You can buy dumbells individually based on the weight you need. I started with a set of 5 lbs, 8 lbs and 10 lbs. That way I would have a nice range of weight.
You can also buy a set to start out with that a stand. I love the stand because it keeps them so neat and organized. Typically you can find these sets all over, but right now with the influx of people working out from home these are sold out everywhere. It’s crazy!
Resistance Bands.
These bands are excellent for toning and building muscle. These are really great for those of you who are not interested in weights or maybe you just can’t find weights in stock! These will give you resistance while building and toning your muscles.
In addition, they can also be used to add extra resistance around your legs as you are doing HIIT workouts. I highly recommend these. I have a similar set of bands that I use, but mine are longer. I like that these specifically can be used to tone the thighs. This set also comes with workouts to guide you through the exercises you can do.
Stability Ball.
I have had a stability ball since I started working out and have used it for so many different exercises. It’s especially good for doing crunches because and you won’t risk straining your back and neck. It’s also good to just sit on for good posture! You can use it for leg exercises such as a wall squat, as a “bench” to do chest presses etc. So many things you can do!
Ankle Weights.
Okay, these ankle weights are sooo good for toning your backside. I use these to target my glutes and hamstrings. These weights are great for donkey kicks and leg curls.
If you want extra weight for walking or running then I would suggest something smaller like these:
Workout Mat.
A good yoga mat comes in handy for all exercises to protect your knees and give you more comfort when working out instead of working out on a hard surface.
Step Up Stand.
This is not an essential piece of equipment, but depending on where you are in your fitness journey this may be ideal for you. I like this for toning the glutes and thighs, but it’s also great for cardio workouts.
Medicine Ball.
A medicine ball is great for additional weight when doing jump squats and split lunges. Also, good for ab workouts! Choose which size ball you want.
Exercise Desk.
I love this bike idea for those of you that are new to working from home. It’s a great way to get some additional exercise in while working.
Don’t forget to make sure you are eating right when working out and staying hydrated. I love this water bottle for keeping on top of your water intake.
